After a long day at the zoo, we went back to the hotel for a short nap. We had a little difficulty deciding where to eat at. Even the concierge wasn't much help. He didn't know any places downtown, because he didn't ever go downtown (mind you he worked at a hotel downtown). We looked through a small visitors guide and skeptically decided on Arnold's. This is our first view.
Pretty cool looking, I have to admit. However, when we went inside we weren't as impressed. The main room only had a bar with a couple of tables in the back where we waited to be seated. We asked a few questions while we waited and almost decided to go somewhere else until this...
They seated us outside in the courtyard. It suddenly turned into the coolest place on Earth. It turns out, Arnold's is the oldest bar in Cincinnati, established in 1861. Arnold's also had some amazing food. Another gem to add to our restaurant repertoire. Just as amazing as the food was the musical atmosphere. Arnold's was featuring this bluegrass band Jake Speed and the Freddies Although, I should warn you if you dare to click on the link, the band seemed to have an innocent fondness for the use of bad language in their songs. Don't worry, Jake personally appologized to Brooks from the mic. He then chastised himself stating that he has a newborn son arriving next month.
Pre-show, Jake mingled with the crowd and introduced himself to us. He really liked our little Ladies Man. Although we enjoyed meeting him he made it increasingly more difficult for us to cut out when we finished our meal rather than hang around until closing. Even the kids loved the music as we waited for them to get fussy so we could bail via excuse, they never did. So, we decided to bail one at a time, nonchalantly. Then when Becca had to lift Moses' carrier overhead to get around the small courtyard mid-song, Jake yelled, "See ya later Moses!" Further complicating our smooth exit, I knocked over a vase of flowers. So much for that.
We headed back to the hotel only after a one hour "wild goose chase" to the nearest Dunkin' Donuts. Yes, actually, we did have GPS and we were using it. Go Figure. However, I think it was more user error than the actual GPS.
The next day we got up and made it just across the river from Cincinnati to Newport, KY. You can see the Cincinnati skyline in the background across the water. We had a little bit of time to peruse before "Taste of Cincinnati" at noon.
We finally made it to "taste." By this point we were pretty hungry and too overwhelmed with choices to decide what to we wanted....
...well, most of us anyway. Brooks had no trouble deciding what to eat, and Moses couldn't think of anything but sleeping, again.
We drove back to Louisville after "taste," let the boys finish their naps, and got some BBQ to go. We made one last stop at the park to get some energy out before bathing at Dave and Becca's and heading home.
A good time was had by all! Thanks for coming with us, Dave and Becca!
